Will I get over this……

Question:

Hi Gary, You have come to a good place. Please continue to share your story. This is my first post to this group because I did not know it existed until I was digging in the newsgroups and stumbled upon it.  I have been reading some of the posts with great interest because I have been coping with anxiety for about three years. I have seen six doctors and they have not been able to help me.  I was put on Paxil 10mg for about three weeks and then to 20mg this helped a bit but the side effects were worst then the panic attacks so I quit taking it.

Keep looking for the right doctor. Some just aren’t tuned into what an anxiety/panic disorder is. So keep looking. I have been working thru this on my own by doing exercises that calm me down this would include walking, listing to soothing music, or talking to people. I’m doing better then I was three years ago when there were times that I didn’t think I would be able to go to wor I would be driving and almost turn around and go home.

There was a time when I couldn’t drive…lasted about 8 months. Had to have friends and family cart me around. The stress of traffic, etc. can be overwhelming. Today about the only thing that will set me off is something new, like meeting new people, being in a room full of people that I do not know…..

Sounds familiar. Again, find a program tha works for you…realize that you can overcome these obstacles, and we are here to encourage you. I ordered a book called "Stress and Panic Attack Survival Guide"  today… Anybody out there read this book, did it help? As for all the post I have read today all I can say to others is hang in there life will get better…  Try what I have, find something that calms you and DO IT…  I believe that panic is in the head and you need to "talk" to yourself, tell yourself that there is nothing that can hurt you, find what triggers attacks and put yourself into that situation but on a small scale that you know you can manage and work up from there…

Panic may be in more parts of the body besides the head. I am not fully convinced that a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" is the sole method to getting better. But reorienting yourself and taking those first steps is a good start. I wish you continued success! John
