Why are we so *drawn* to each other?

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It can’t be just because we all suffer from the same thing, can it?  I think there has to be more to it than that.  Any thoughts?  Thanks Di We are so close to each other but live so far away. I for one think it is a bonding of emotional support. We can come on this board any time, day or night, from any part of the world and someone is here and seems to respond right away. We feel safe behind our computers in our own homes. We can pour out our feelings while we sit in ripped jeans or old housecoats and dirty hair and not one of you gives a damn how we look!! I love it. Although I never typed while naked, I am really thinking about that!!!LOL Julie

Julie! You’re so right!  How many times have I sat here and looked my worst, cried and typed.  I’ve thought of naked too, honest, but my neighbors would see me. LOL I’ve got to have the window open, love fresh air. Hugs, Di Got questions?  Get answers over the phone at Keen.com. Up to 100 minutes free! http://www.keen.com

{{{{{Elise}}}}} So true!  I’m speechless and choked up.  Thank you! Di – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Tony and Di, I find ASAP to be a place where I can vent and also feel comfortable – not having to meet anyone else’s needs or wants.  A time for people to drawer their inner strength and sources and share with each other their knowledge, fears, dreams, support and even humor… smiles, elise Di, I think we all just very kind people and it’s very hard to find kind people anymore in today’s rat race out there. We don’t prescribe to the motto "Whoever dies with the most toys wins" It’s obvious that PD has drawn us all to this group but I think it is the kind, open-hearted people that post on this group that keeps me coming back.  I don’t think it’s an addiction.  I think it’s a desire to become grounded and to interact with kind people. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Di, I think everything happens for a reason.  When I first started having panic attacks and the doctor told me I may possibly have them the rest of my life, I thought What did I do to deserve this?  How am I going to get through this? I must be the only person in the world who is going through this.  But now it makes a bit more sense.  Maybe God gave us all anxiety, panic disorder, whatever so we would find each other here.  I know I read so many inspirational things here that help me through a lot.  And you guys are probably the nicest people I have ever met.  If I didn’t have these problems, I wouldn’t know you guys, and that’s a scary thought also. Tami

Tami! Hi!  You know, I never forgot you.  I didn’t want to email you because I knew you were at school and probably very busy.  If you don’t mind, can I email you later on or tomorrow?  I never did get to tell you what I REALLY wanted to. Thanks!  I’ll be looking for your post.  I agree with you about these people being the nicest anywhere!! Di

I think we validate each other. For us, seeing the vast numbers of people who post here is reassuring that this disorder is real, not imagined. Hearing and cheering on the successes of others and commiserating over bad experiences gives us a bond. We know that at ASAP someone won’t say "its all in your head" or "get over it." Charley

Hi Charley! Thank you for responding. I agree with what you said wholeheartedly.  Still, I keep wondering if there is more to it than the bonding, even though I know you’re right also. Di, I think we mostly all suffer from the same thing anxiety/panic disorder, but even though the symptoms are similar, its cause could be different – genetic, environmental, hormonal and other different ways.  I find it even odder how anxiety manifests in different ways in many of us: driving, going to the mall, grocery shopping, elevators, etc.  I suppose it is a question they just don’t have any answer to yet… smiles, elise

Thanks Elise! It makes me mad.  They can do so much with science.  They can go to the moon, but they can’t *cure* us.  They can’t even come up with a damn pill that won’t give us side effects.  Where are their priorities? Hi Di! That is a good question.  I guess we like the brother and sister hood.  We feel that we belong.  Most of us have had that problem for a long time.  We are a little different than a lot of folks out there, and it is nice to feel comfortable discussing things with each other because there is no judgement. Other wise  duh  I dunno.  lol.  :)J — "Just when you think life sucks, someone hands you a vacuum cleaner; it is at this time you start cleaning some house". :) J  Visit me at:  http://members.ync.net/jdgalvin/index.html

I am not particularly drawn to people with anxiety disorders. But this is the common denominator determining who meets whom here. And we use this space to speak freely and not hide behind any *persona*. Now *that* may be why we like each other: that we meet *real* people who are willing to be known by each other. I know I love the people at ASAP and it’s most certainly a *home away from home* for me (hm..strange metaphor as I’m *meeting* all of you only at my home…;)) Philip

Dear Di, with me it was just such a relief to find other people with the same symptoms as me especially my vertigo/dizziness thing. I thought i was the only person in the world with this so it was great to speak to others who had the same thing. ASAP has done me more good than my doc ever did.                     Love, Ken.
