Question:
If anyone has tried Zoloft, I would like to hear your experiences with it. I take Xanax and Prozac for PDA but the Prozac after 6 weeks at 40mg per day has done nothing for me. My primary care doctor is doing a trial of Zoloft while still maintaining the Xanax. Please let me know if you have used Prozac and switched to Zoloft or if you have used or use Zoloft. Thanks a million! Donna

I am on Zoloft, although it’s a low dosage (50mg daily). I have tried Prozac (caused major heart palpitations), Imipramine (didn’t work), Paxil(caused major mood swings). I was put on these meds for depression. So far the Zoloft has worked for the depression with no real side effects. I have suffered from PA’s since I was a child. They peaked for me in my 20’s up to around 30 when they lessend but were still there. Since being on the Zoloft, I have had very minimal PA’s. They seem not to last as long and are not as severe. I don’t know if this helps as all persons are different. Good luck!! Post again if you need more info or just support. Jeanie

Hi Donna, Yes, I’ve taken Zoloft. I had a bout with depression about three years ago. My depression also involved lots of panic attacks along with derealization (feelings of unreality.) During the initial dosages of Zoloft, I experienced an intensification of my panic symptoms, especially during the first few hours I was up. These symptoms subsided in about two days. Then each time the dosage was increased, I’d re-experience increased symptoms. Nevertheless after two or three shaky weeks, all my symptoms (both anxiety and depression) abated. My occasional migraines even stopped. I stayed on Zoloft for about a year and then stopped taking it. Within a couple weeks I had a migraine, and I think I’ve had a couple since. But the good news is that my depression has not returned. However, the past couple months I’ve had a few flare-ups of anxiety, but nothing that has required a return to medication. I hope this is helpful to you. I think the key to starting the Zoloft (especially in cases where panic disorder may be present) is to start with very small dosages and GRADUALLY increase them. Anyway, that was my experience. Good luck, and hang in there, my friend! Sincerely, Doug
