Question:
Daniel, I know exactly what you are talking about when you say "out of body experience." I developed panic attacks at 22 and full blown panic disorder/agoraphobia at 29. However at the age of 16 I had these feelings of unreality, sort of like, I was watching myself from afar. Scared the heck out of me. In my fear and being so young, I told my parents that and I quote directly because I was teased about this. I said, "I feel weird." I went to the doctor with this complaint and was diagnosed with mono via a blood test. Sometimes these feelings came out of the blue and sometimes when I thought about them I could actually feel that way. Sounds like anticipatory anxiety. In reading your post, I have drawn yet another connection to the early stages of panic disorder back even before the actual attacks occurred. Donna

<snipped Has anyoen felt that "out of body" experience? I would like some of your description of the feeling… Thanks…
Hi, Daniel. I read a while back that feelings of derealization can be caused by altered cerebral blood flow. One of the things that was mentioned as a likely cause of the altered flow was hyperventilation. There are probably others, however. Does anyone know of other likely causes. That feeling of floating a bit out of my body was one of my most dread symptoms. It seemed that I could get better if only I could see the sun through all that gray mist. Fortunately, in my case, the mist was one of the first things that lifted when I began to get better. Still, I think of it with dread, and know what you are going through. The only thing I can think that may help in the short run is breathing exercises. Perhaps other people know some things that work to ease the feeling? Much luck to you, Anita

What is Indreal for kind of medication???
Paul, Inderal is a common or garden beta-blocker, available in a variety of different strengths as well as a slow-release form (Inderal-LA). Its chemical name is propanolol. The majority view on ASAP is that it is useful for treating *phsyical* symptoms of anxiety states, such as excessive sweating, trembling and, mostly, elevated heart rate. It is mainly sold as a treatment for high blood pressure. It is also used by some musicians and public speakers, in an attempt to allay the feelings of stage fright. Hope that helps. — Gary Cooper

I think I have kind of had what you’re talking about. For me I felt like there was a light shining through me or something, or something was breaking out through me. It’s really hard to explain. I got really paranoid and felt like people could tell when I was tweaking out. Zack

It seems that you are not there, what you are seeing is not reallity at all, you can’t snap out of it… Me!! Me!! I had that too!! As I said before, that, and 99.9% of the symptoms I have read here. I can be walking and all of the sudden I feel like I am a robot, I feel nothing, I feel empty, like if I was in a cave, all becomes kind of dark, and quiet..(eekkk I AM crazy! jeez!) It only lasts a few minutes (phew) Once I was in the car and suddenly I did not know where I was, I did not recognized the street, it seemed that it had too many trees, it was dark and tunel-like, then..after a few panicky seconds..I recognized it! It was the same road I take 4 times a day when I leave my house! (yep..is official I AM crazy!!) your loca de la cabeza listmate Rosita

Hi Daniel, What is Indreal for kind of medication??? I suffer from depersonalization/derealization-feelings for eleven years now. It’s like my mind and body are separated. It’s like I’m not really in my own body. If i look at my own arms and legs it looks if they are not mine. I even have the need of toutching things around me to feel that i exist. It feels terrible and i do not have an answer to it. Do you recognize this?? Greetings from paul.
