Question:
OMG, Tanya! What on earth are you doing? I’m no genius, but I do know a few things here and there – one is that you just CAN’T stop Xanax abruptly – and why would you even WANT to do that? I’d like to maybe meet one day, but if you die, that will not happen. If you want to rapidly get off it, cut the dose by a 1/2 mg every 3 days (although that will be very uncomfortable, it’s not life-threatening). Lord have mercy. G
Tanya, Gary is right. This is serious and risky stuff. We want to keep you here so please *TAPER OFF* instead of trying cold turkey, it’s totally unnecessary and you know it. Philip – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I dont understand how this problem came on so suddenly but here I am sunday evening worrying like crazy with a major headache… because panic takes no prisoners. and if you’re worrying about the next episodic adventure, i would presume you have panic disorder as opposed to panic attacks. Whats worse is the soonest I can get to a Physcrotrist is 2 and half months from now!! natch ! they DO have an ivory tower to maintain, yanno <wink actually, your GP will prescribe the medication necessary considering your symptoms, i would suggest you shop for a GP with panic disorder, as i did. you normally don’t need a psych evaluation if your symptoms are real because they are convincing. talk to your regular doctor, if he puts you on a long-term relief med such as paxil, zoloft, etc. i would kick and scream til i got a benzo such as xanax or klonapin. xanax is pretty much instant relief, klonopin is great, just a little slower and in panic mode? 30 minutes is an eternity. and no buspar. that’s fake stuff. practice breathing full deep long breaths, the first one, count to 5 when you have taken in all the oxygen you can but don’t hold your breath. follow it by 2 deep breaths without the 5 seconds you maintain during the first. then repeat. be slow and systematic with your breathing, keeping your arms lower than your heart. focus on every point in your body while doing this starting with your toes, just focus on each body part til you reach the top of your head, you probly won’t make it that far up. breathing is your savior right now until you get medication. personally, i’m trying to come off xanax as we speak, and it’s no walk in tha park. i’m doing what i shouldn’t do and cold-turkeyin’ it, i have no clue why i’m doin’ somethin’ so stupid, but i’m OCD, and determined. so i might be making little to no sense now, i hope at least you get my jist. try the benzos on an ‘as needed’ basis and talk to GFX, (Gary) cuz he’s the medication genius, i swear. good luck, i feel for ya. <sermoooooooooch ~tanya
