Question:
Hi Spinner! I *was* in the same situation over a year ago. I haven’t worked since March 2000. I used to try to ride through the PAs too. Most of the time I’d make it, but there were several times I just called my boss and told him I had to leave work, or I couldn’t go in. I think it’s fantastic that you can ride them out and stay there. I don’t know anything about the meds you take, but I’m still taking Ativan and that helps. I wish you the best Spin! Hugs, Di
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi all, I don’t know if any of you can remember, a few months ago I was worried of taking Prozac…also I was starting work, and I was house bound.. Well a I’m in my second week and it’s going pretty good so far. I started on 5mg and now i’m on 20mg (prozac), You guys advised me to ask my doc for a Benzo, cos I was affraid of the side effects, The benzo he gave me was Diazepam 5mg, What a difference that makes!
It does get tough some times, and I just want get out and drive straight home, but I bite the bullet and ride through the PA and stay there, I’m also hoping that this will be great therapy for me.. Is anyone else in this situation? If so perhaps we could share experiences… Thanks all. Spin

Boy do I know where you are coming from and what you’re saying. I have been back at work full time for almost 2 weeks now. It is a constant struggle. The anxiety starts when I get up in the morning and builds through the day. By the time 4:30 comes, I am more than ready to bolt for the door and get home or to some other place of safety and security. The big problem for me is that the meds, although working much better than without, are still not enough. I also feel so drugged, I’m not really sure what I am doing every day. Hopefully, my pdoc is right and this drugged feeling will wear off in the next 4 weeks or so as I adapt to the recent change in meds. Don’t forget about seeking out a good cognitive behavior therapist if you find yourself slipping backwards at all. You are on the right road! Thanks everyone who replied ! When I saw my doctor we decided that seeing a therapist could help, I’m hopeing that I can completely iradicate PA’s. I know its a huge step, But imagine an existance without PA’s ( heaven hey). I havn’t worked for nearly a year due to my anxiety/PA’s, this was a giant step for me to actually work. I’m 25 and have missed out on so much due to these issues, and like all of us whom suffer, we just want to be able to get on with life ! Oh yea and more good news.. I got a pay rise in my first week… not bad for a anxious agraphobic ! Kind Regards spin

Hi Merle, Welcome to ASAP!! Exactly what are you taking Prozac for? A switch to another anti-depressant might help. I take Paxil for panic disorder and it has helped me alot. There is also a class of meds called "benzodiazepines" also known as "tranquilizers" that are a first choice med when treating panic attacks, something you might want to ask your doctor about. Take care
Jackie

Dear Spin, Glad to hear that you found a winning med combo
Sometimes meds aren`t enough and it sounds like you still struggling even though you are taking effective meds. I strongly encourage you to look into "cognitive behavioral therapy. Paxil has helped me alot but I have to say that CBT has helped me tremendously as well. Jackie
