: I am a sophmore who plays basketball in highschool. : Last year there was a girl at my school named Renee. She was soooo : smart, funny Cool, popular, Pretty and just perfect. She was never : stressed out and she was always nice. She was my Idol!!!! She : graduated last year, and went onto college this year out of state : to play basketball. : Anyway…My friend just told me that Renee had a Panic attack recently, : so she had to stop basketball, and she dropped all her college courses. : Now she is back in the state at home. I dont understand how all this : happened!!!! Why would she quit basketball and drop her college : classes????? Is she ok? How did it happen. i need as much info on this : as possible. Just to let you know, this disorder effects people in alot of different ways. Some can not leave their house, can’t work etc.. If she *is* having panic attacks, she is not in mortal danger. ( just to clarify; *I* have never heard of anyone dying from a panic attack) She does need help though. Can you get in contact with her? I know when I first "came down" with PD (panic disorder), I had to wing it, not much info in ‘83. If she has access to a computer we would *love* to talk to her. Thank you (non-PD person) 
for being so concerned and caring for your friend. Alot of people don’t seem to care or want to understand its disorder. You sound like a good friend. Hope this helps you, and her. I think most folks, including myself, in this NG. really have a "thing" for people that are "new" to PD and need help. One of the worst things about it is not *knowing* what is wrong. Education *does* help.
