Question:
Since beginning of 11/98 I started seeking help for my panic attacks. On 11/24 had a bad panic attack and haven’t been back to work since. Have been to see the doctor but at this point no medications have been given and I am extremly close to losing my job due to no medical excuse. I am not ready to return to work till I get something to control these attacks. I just don’t know what my options are i’m new to all this.

It’s a difficult situation you’re in and the doctor is to blame. Hasn’t he ever heard of Panic Disorder? Maybe not. In my book this borders on (or actually *is*) malpractice. I think that you should contact a pdoc specialized in anxiety disorders asap and have yourself prescribed some proper medication (benzo(s) and/or an AD, preferably a benzo like Xanax or Klonopin because you need a quick fix with regard to your situation at work). In a sense you’re lucky because your PD can now be treated at the onset of symptoms. If there would have been the avenues to recovery that we have now thirty years ago my life might have been different (although I think my life is meaningful, rich and fulfilling). Maybe there is a university clinic in your area where you have the best chance to find a knowledgeable pdoc. Philip
