Question:
I thought DECONGESTANTS caused the anxiety…???? Don’t antihistamines make one tired??? Clueless
yes but for some being drugged tired causes anxiety as can dry mouth or any other body change drugs can impart LM
Response:
there is nothing to indicate that prolonged antihistamine + pain killer use is causing those with migraines to develop anx. disorders.
exactamundo some unenlightened md’s give vistaril(hydroxyzine) as a tranq for anxiety thinking its as good as a benzo-and safe to use for loong periods of time-in this regard they are correct some people live on antihistamines chronicaly for life with no appreciable problems LM

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Chip, I went this route when I thought I might have PD but wanted to believe it was an inner ear problem and not a mental disorder. I thought that seeing a psychiatrist would be the beginning of the end for me. I couldn’t imagine taking pills everyday that might change my personality. An ENT put me on an anti-inflammatory steroid for about ten days but I was still having major panic attacks in my car. After the steroid didn’t work and the brain MRI didn’t show any problems, I needed to get better and told my general practitioner that I think I have panic disorder. The month or so of denial actually put me in a deeper hole to climb out of. I have a new perspective of psychiatrists and medications. Quality of life is what life is all about. Hi Tony, PD is easy to diagnose based on symptoms alone. (they have PAs!) It always surprises me that so many doctors run patients through so many tests, and STILL don’t give a patient a correct diagnosis of PD. Yes, one of the side effects listed on antihistimines is shakiness, disorientation, among others. Plus, the inner esr infection can cause some of that. I had vertigo so bad from an inner ear infection that the room was grey and spun for days. My son who is a teenager, had to carry my to the bahroom whenever I had to use it, it was so bad. About the antihistimes, though, once, when I was hospitalized for a nervous breakdown, the nurse told me the atihistimines I had taken for so long plus the medcaition for my headaches caused my illness or at least contributed to it. Don’t know if she was right or not cause I had tons of external factors that no dought led up to it too, but I always wondered about what she said.
